What's in A Name?
Sometimes not enough says David Plasek, president of Lexicon Branding in 
Sausalito, California.  In a Reuters article carried in the NewsPage.com  
Business Strategy Topic(http://www.newspage.com/browse/46587/46589/122039/?source=nl)
Plasek explained that people's natural inclination to name an e-commerce
website to describe what the business does is just not memorable enough.

People had a hard time remembering SportSite.com even after they had
spent 10 minutes on the site, and they confused it with SportsLine.com, 
SportsZone.com, and Sportscape.com.

But customers remember the new name: Fogdogsports.com.

And when an on-line bookstore left behind ComputerLiteracy.com and became 
FatBrain.com, it saw brand awareness increase four-fold.  

And here's where courage comes in.  At first, focus groups and corporate 
clients objected to FatBrain.com.  But over time focus group members grew to 
like it and found it the most memorable.  

Plasek says, "A name may not work if the image or personality it evokes does
not click with the identity the business is trying to convey. Sometimes
offbeat and daring names work best."

My niece in London, Hanna, was discouraged.  The 24-year old Vassar
graduate who has been wildly successful in selling her kitchen designs

Talk to these companies, I said.  Sell your selling skills, and they'll
be happy to have you.  Then you'll get your webfeet wet and learn about

Hanna hasn't changed jobs yet, but she's watching the possibilities knowing that
